September 21st, 11:30am: “City of Angels: In and Around Los Angeles” By Julie Jaskol, Brian Lewis and Elisa Kleven
Join authors and illustrator Julie Jaskol, Brian Lewis and Elisa Kleven as they discuss and sign their new edition of City of Angels: In and Around Los Angeles, (published by Angel City Press).
To write City of Angels, Julie Jaskol, a second generation Angeleno, and Brian Lewis called on preservationists, historians, artists, community leaders, and local activists to help create an image of Los Angeles entrenched by the intimate knowledge and great love these people have for their hometown. They took walking tours, visited festivals, and picked through handwritten histories in cramped libraries.
Ms. Kleven is an award-winning author and illustrator whose work is beloved by children, parents, teachers, and booksellers alike. Her many outstanding picture books include Abuela, by Arthur Dorros; De Colores and Diez Deditos, both by Joes-Luis Orozco; and her own The Paper Princess, The Puddle Pail, A Monster in the House, and Hooray, a Pinata! Elisa Kleven lives in Albany, California, with her husband, Paul; her daughter, Mia; her son, Ben; and their dog and cat.

Saturday,
October 4th, 11:00am: Saturday Scene at the Geffen Playhouse with bestselling author/illustrator, Tony DiTerlizzi
The Geffen & Storyopolis proudly present the acclaimed author/illustrator Tony DiTerlizzi, live at the Geffen, with his newest book, Kenny & The Dragon. Intrigued by the notion that people judge on outward appearances, the Caldecott Honorist, New York Times bestseller, and co-creator of the international phenomenon The Spiderwick Chronicles, Tony DiTerlizzi, puts a new twist on a faded classic, The Reluctant Dragon, bringing its message to a new generation of young readers. Tony puts a fun-filled, thoroughly theatrical spin on Kenneth Grahame’s classic tale of subterfuge and showmanship with this lighthearted romp of a retelling where it’s up to one clever little rabbit to give his neighbors front row seats to one of the best-known battles in history, the showdown between George and the Dragon.
The day will be themed and include a live band that ushers in the presentation.
Please visit www.geffenplayhouse.com or call 310-208-5454 for all the wonderful details. Storyopolis is proud to be part of "Saturday Scene" at The Geffen playhouse. |
Sunday, October 12th, 11:00am: "JACK AND THE BOX" By Art Spiegelman
Storyopolis is proud to present a once in a lifetime event with the legendary Art Spiegelman!!!
Art Spiegelman is a revolutionary pioneer, artist, editor, and visionary for the medium of comics and the emerging graphic novel. World-renowned for his Pulitzer Prize-winning graphic novel memoir, "Maus," and numerous other acclaimed works, Art Spiegelman will be presenting his newest childrens project "JACK AND THE BOX." The book is published by Toon Books, a company in which he serves as a Series Advisor for.
"JACK JUST GOT A NEW TOY, and it’s full of surprises. Each time the box pops open, there’s a new and bigger surprise. Is it a silly toy, a scary toy...or something else entirely? With a limited vocabulary and unlimited imagination, art spiegelman applies his out-of-the-box thinking to a book that has all the surprise and bounce of a Jack-in-the-box. TOON BOOKS represents a whole new approach to books for emerging readers - a rethinking as radical as the first time Theodore Geisel put a hat on a cat."
Please join us for this incredible event as we welcome a true living legend, Art Spiegelman! The event will feature a presentation, reading, signing, and more.
