Saturday, October 6th, 11:30am: "Jake Stays Awake" By Michael Wright
“Jake can’t sleep, so he climbs into bed with his mom and dad. Now Jake’s parents can’t sleep either. They try sleeping in the kitchen, on the roof, and in the car—nothing seems to work! As Jake and his family search desperately for a spot that will help Jake fall asleep, readers will laugh at author-illustrator Michael Wright’s striking, droll images (full of subtle visual jokes), and at the unusual places throughout their home that he imagines this family might try to improvise a bed in hopes of finding the magic bedtime location for Jake.” Join us for this special launch of the fantastic new book, “Jake Stays Awake.” With an endearing story and remarkably creative illustrations, this is a perfect way to start your October. The event will feature a special reading and signing, so come explore Jake’s world and get to know this wonderful new character created by Michael Wright. Thursday, October 11th, 7:00pm - 10:00pm: Grand Gallery Opening with Chad Attie
The Storyopolis Gallery celebrates its opening by welcoming New York famed artist Chad Attie and his featured exhibit, “Confessions of an Ice Cream Man.” In this adult showcase, Chad speaks about how the art came to be.
Confessions Of An Ice Cream Man are about innocence, desire, roller coasters, lollipops, frustration, chocolate milk, flowers, abuse, dreams, robots, animal costumes, violence, ice cream flavors, plastic boats, mortality and much more. This series of drawings began with trying to find an exceptional moment each day. I would draw and describe that moment in the simplest way possible, using only a child’s materials, pastel, pencil and cream paper. I began to draw on not only experiences in the present but went into my childhood memories and reflections. In the end the drawings totaled over 600.”
