Jim Bauer

Jim Bauer started out as an aluminum-obsessed junk dealer, collecting cast-off coffeepots, salt shakers, measuring spoons, and anything else he could find made from his favorite shiny metal. As his collection grew, he began to assemble the bits into humanoid objects, adding glass, reflectors, and light bulbs to illuminate them from within. These "kitchenoid figures" were initially sold at the very flea markets where Jim had found his raw materials. Today, Jim Bauer is considered a leader in a new generation of American folk artists, outside artists, and "flea market entrepreneurs." His aluminum robot lamps -- or "kitchen utensil personalities" –traveled through 14 African countries in 1995 as part of the U.S. Information Agency’s “Recycle, Reuse and Recreate” exhibition.

The sculptures listed are 1950's aluminum kitchen utensil sculptures. Additional shipping charge may be required.
